Producers Shoot Down Gervais Oscar Rumors

There were rumors going around yesterday that British comedian Ricky Gervais was in talks to host the 2009 Academy Awards. Unfortunately, there is no truth to that rumor. A producer for the event insists that talks for the show haven’t even started yet.
He tells E! Online, "We haven't made one single phone call. There has been no reaching out."
Academy president, Sid Ganis, adds, "We haven't gotten that far yet. We're just not there yet."

Ricky Gervais To Host The Oscars?

The Oscars might actually be worth watching this year! Ricky Gervais, the hilarious Emmy-winning actor from Extras, is in negotiations to host this year.
That would be the second Brit to take over hosting duties in one award season! Word on the street is, Oscar producers were so impressed with his bit with Steve Carell at Sunday's Emmys that they're exploring having him host Hollywood's biggest night of 2009.

David Blaine To Hold His Breath On Oprah

David Blaine is ready for his next feat! He'll attempt to beat the Guinness world record for a human holding their breath under water. And he'll do it on Oprah, just so he knows everyone will be watching!
The current record is sixteen minutes and fourteen seconds. How he plans on beating that, we don't know! Fourteen seconds alone is difficult enough!

Oscar Commercial Prices Hit All Time High

Now that the writer's strike is over, the Oscars are a hot commodity again. 30-second commercials for the big show are fetching up to $1.7 million dollars, which is an all time high for the award show.
ABC gave GM motors a big exclusive, no other automobile company will be advertising during the big show. Not only will they be buying up commercials, 75 of their "environmentally friendly" vehicles will be shuttling celebrities to the red carpet.
