Save Friday Night Lights

TV Shows

I think it's cool to see fan dedication in the wake of the strike with so many of the network shows being cancelled. The most recent fan sponsored uproar is over Friday Night Lights, which didn't make the cut at NBC.

If you're unfamiliar, the hour drama is based on the book by H.G. Bissinger, and focuses on a high school football team in Dillon, Texas, and all the small town drama that surrounds it. After it was announced FNL was being dropped from the lineup, www.savefridaynightlights.tv was created.

The goal is to inundate NBC entertainment chief Ben Silverman with letters, online petitions, even plastic footballs. And they're not the only ones. VH1's Best Week Ever is board, starting their own petition at bestweekever.tv/category/save-friday-night-lights. Hey, 40,000 pounds of peanuts sent to CBS saved Jericho, so keep your hopes up fans!

Friday Night Lights is a well written show. The small texas town feel is great. The characters interaction has been a big part of why I love the show. Please consider bringing back to the tube. Thanks, Mike Cox Friday Night Lights Fan

I've never encountered a family drama that truly and richly entertains the entire family.(Ours includes teenage girls.) To cancel such a beautifully crafted program would be a travesty. And replace it with what? - another cheap gameshow? Bring it back and try promoting it this time - maybe even on the Today Show - unless they're too busy hawking Fox's American Idol. They loved doing that when FNL was opposite it on their own network. Go figure.

this is one of the only shows that my wife and I actually make time in our schedule to watch. We love the small town feel and of course the football. Brings back memories of highschool ball. Please do not kill FNL.

The network should keep this well written show on the air! Hey NBC remember those shows that you featured in the '80's? One of them was CHEERS. It languished at the bottom of the ratings charts for almost 2 years. You stuck it out and it became part of your "must watch tv lineup on thursdays!

NBC, you are making a big mistake if you cancel Friday Night Lights. It is truly unique & you need to get the word out that it is not just about SPORTS. I love the cast & it is so well done. PLEASE do not cancel this show!!

This is the best show on Friday night on any channel. I am in my thirties and I love the show. It has a very strong right and wrong (moral) content and all teens should be watching this show. You do not know what you are missing. It is a show for the whole family!

Please keep this show on the air! It has such heart and is so true to the life of small town Texas (or Oklahoma, or Arkansas, etc.)and their passion for football. It also depicts such great values, with fun and intelligent dialogue. Angela Vacaville, CA

Friday Nights gave me the feeling you get when you get your paycheck at the end of the week. I could watch Friday Night Lights and couldn't wait until the next episode. I got season 1 for christmas. What will happen to Jules, or Coach Taylor, Will Landry ever really get the girl. Will the quarter back ever really be the star. Will Jason ever walk again. And Buddy, is it possible he gets his wife and family back. There are just too many memories and longing fors to cancel such a good show. I was really wanting to watch it tonight.

This outstanding show is about so much more than football. Its story line is as relevant today as it was when I was in high school in the 50's. Please don't cancel a show that is one of the most well written and acted on television. Friday night is a really poor time to have scheduled it.

This is the most outstanding television show in a long, long time. It is well written with something for everyone. I am so tired of the greedy game shows and mean spirited reality shows. This show is not about sports. and I think it's time that NBC properly marketed the show. If they won't do it the another network should grab it and go.
Posted by: Deb on 02/29/2008 06:24 PM

This is the best show on television. Maybe if you marketed the show properly (as if you did any marketing at all before, other than running completely banal and football-centric commercials a few times), the rest of the tv-watching population would be interested in giving it a try. Why haven't we seen any of our favorite Panthers promoting the show in magazines/talk-shows/newspapers?!?!?!

Friday Night Lights is great. We love it, please don't cancel it.

This is one of the best family shows to watch with my teenage kids. Our family is not interested in the reality shows that have taken over TV. Taking this show off the air would be a great loss to TV. Please don't cancel it.

Why would NBC take off such a well-written and acted show? Sucks. Take off something else that's totally stupid, like most of the rest of television, and put this show on 24/7. Well, OK... Maybe not that much, but we like it in this house. What bonehead decided to let it go? Put it back!
