The theme for last night's American Idol was inspirational songs, going in alignment with the special Idol Gives Back fundraiser event.. The results show will air on Thursday. Does this mean that no one will get axed like last year? Lets see if AI breaks their record from last year to raise more than 100 million. This should bring joy to our hearts. And there will be lots of stars to fill up our celebrity frenzy.
Now, back to last night! Michael Johns started the night off with a sweet rendition of Dream On. The beginning of this song didn't work as well, and the electric guitar totally upstaged him. Randy said it was a pretty good song choice, but had some pitch problems. And he didn't buy him as Aerosmith. Michael gave him some sass about doing the song because "Dreams do come true in America." It looks like it was Randy's turn to be cranky--Simon's got the day off for a change!
Next up is delish Syesha and her make on Fantasia's big "I Believe" which was risky to say the least. But she pulled it off pretty well. She even hit the high note at the end. The panel thought she did the song justice but the emotional connect was missing. Syesha has finished last or next-to-last every week thus far... yet time and again manages to hold on. Can she tough out another round?
Jason Castro's "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" --the Ukulele version. This was the perfect song for him, and he looked adorable singing it. He connected to the song, he hit some cool high notes, and the crowd dug it. Randy said, "That was blazing molten hot!" and that he's back tonight. And Simon thought it was "Fantastic!" Like we said he's in a good mood tonight.
Kristy Lee Cook performed "Anyway" and is super sparkly-- again. She connected really well with the audience. The boys must be lovin' her messy bed hair too. Paula stood, danced and said it was great. Then she told Randy to leave her pitch alone, and said it was her best performance ever on the show. Simon thought that she chose a fantastic song and sang it very well. Also, he thought she looked like a star tonight. Told you the dudes would like the hair.
Usual heavy hitter David Cook performed "Innocent" and sounded off in beginning. He ultimately did not do as well as the last two weeks. But we love the hidden message on his palm. Very sweet--and tactful! He's currently w/ close to 40 percent of votes but after last night may fall a couple notches. And the white chef jacket he wore was a hit or miss for some.
Carly Smith gave a voice perfect performance with "The Show Must Go On" but came off a bit angry at times, commented Simon. It didn't go with the theme of "Inspiration" for the night- perhaps too rocker? But he complimented on her wardrobe. (Wow! Shocker!) You win some and lose some.
Cutie pie David Archuleta performed "Angel" and got all high fives from the judges. Randy loved his song choice and thought it was the best for the season. David's not going anywhere; expect to see him for the duration of the show. Perhaps the edgy rocker side of David A. will emerge soon? Love to see that!
And lastly, Brooke closed the show with none other than rock your head from side to side and raise your lighters rendition of "You Got A Friend". She did a lovely job with it but seemed a bit nervous. Paula said she liked her and thought she was "definitive"....huh? Your guess is as good as mine. Simon thought it was like a lovely walk in the park. Oh, brother! Is he in love or something?!
Most likely to be in the bottom on Thursday is Carly, Kristi, and Syesha. Let's see who takes the cake. In the meantime, let enjoy our charitable Idol Gives Back tonight at 7:30pm.
